Newick Church of England Primary School

Our programme of collective worship follows Government guidelines ensuring that we have a “daily act of collective worship of a broadly Christian nature”.

Our collective worship includes moral worship together with stories, singing, individual class worship and ‘Celebration assemblies’ where parents are invited to attend to join us in celebrating their child’s learning in a variety of areas.

Reverend Paul Mundy and Reverend James Hollingsworth hold weekly collective worship at the School. The whole school attends a church service at St Mary’s Church in Newick each term to celebrate Harvest, Christmas, Easter and also at the end of the school year, whereupon every child transferring to secondary school receives a Bible donated by St Mary’s Church. Year 6 leavers also attend the Diocesan leavers’ service, usually held in Crowborough. We also participate in Mothering Sunday and Christingle services during the year.

Under the Education Act 1996, we must provide religious education for all registered pupils. Although parents can choose to withdraw their child from acts of collective worship, as a Church of England school, it is hoped that parents will not feel the need to exercise this right.

At Newick we have spent time asking all pupils, staff, governors and representatives of the parent community what our Christian values are. Here is a list that was agreed by all stakeholders.
