What a success it was!

The idea of this morning was for the children and adults in our school to donate time to our local community.

Thank you to everyone involved, to families who donated items, volunteers who helped, staff who were so enthusiastic, but most importantly, to our amazing children who worked incredibly hard during Donate a Morning for the greater good.

We have spoken to the children about being ‘agents of change for the community’ and they certainly lived up to it, making us all very proud.

Just to give you a picture of the morning:

Reception: The children went out into the field to take part in Forest School and learn about how to help our local wildlife.

Year 1: Created beautiful paintings and performed a song and we will be sending these electronically to Nightingales Care Home.

Year 2: Created care packages that were beautifully decorated to send to the Salvation Army.

Year 3: Designed sandwiches for the Pantry. The winning sandwich will be made for three weeks at the Pantry!

Year 4: Some children did some gardening with Mrs Falconer at the front of the school (have a look as it looks absolutely brilliant). Others completed beautiful stained glass thank you cards for our local parish heroes.

Year 5: Created a beautiful assortment of thank you posters and messages entitled the ‘Book of Gratitude’ this will be sent to our local Mid District Doctor’s Surgery to say thank you to all of the staff.

Year 6: were tasked with the challenge of creating new designs for Newick Green to send to our local Parish Council. They have worked extremely hard to think about ensuring the park caters for everyone’s needs in their new designs.

I hope you and your child felt that the time spent on building their personal development was worthwhile for them as citizens. We certainly did.

What an exciting morning it was!

It was brilliant to have so many local organisations help support our Life Skills morning. These included Cats Protection, Natwest and Little Life Savers to name but a few. The activities organised were designed to equip our children with skills that they will need later in life. These included:

• CPR training
• Money management
• DIY – building bird boxes
• Animal care
• Cooking

Some of our KS2 went to Chailey Secondary school to take part in money management and modern foreign languages lessons.

Our next Break Out Day is on Friday 3^rd April – the theme for that morning is ‘Careers’

Just to give you a picture of the morning we had the Salvation Army in to create food parcels, local hospice staff in to create candleholders and the local parish council in to help the children litter pick around the village. In addition, we had children visit the local residential home to do arts and crafts, children down the church doing floristry and some children at our local secondary school taking part in workshops. Within school, we also had a blanket being sewn, gardening, site caretaking around school, forest school staff helping our local wildlife and baking to prepare for our Christian Aid tea party.
